Mobile IP services.
Our offering combines rich presence, instant messaging (IM), IP calling, push-to-talk and conferencing, in one simple user interface. It works over existing mobile and wireless networks.
The benefits of our services are: reduced churn and enhanced customer loyalty through compelling "sticky" services, plus the opportunity to monetize the offering to generate revenues.
Our services are designed with three key points in mind:
- Short time-to-market
- Open source/Open standards
- Highly scalable
Our offering is tailored towards the needs of mobile users in the small business sector - a large target group with untapped potential. Our services are designed to add value to the user, enriching and extending the mobile experience, delivering added functionality and efficiency in both their business and social life.
Packetmobile can design, host, maintain and deliver the entire communications platform (on behalf of operators, handset manufacturers, internet companies) so there is no need for technical maintenance or infrastructure investments.
We run a test service called "Spokn" which is powered by our unique, open source, protocol - LTP (Lightweight Telephony Protocol). Spokn is currently in private Beta for invited users only.

Groups
Our services center around the ability to create personal groups of colleagues and friends. Whether it's a project team, family members or social buddies, we all belong to groups. It's human nature. It is with these people that one chooses to reveal personal status or presence information. IM is all about seeing if your contacts are available and chatting with them. With our service one can see buddies, chat, call, and PTT, which adds a new visual dimension to the mobile sphere.
Components
- Rich presence — shows much more than just online / offline
- Instant messaging (IM)
- IP calling
- Push-to-talk
- Conferencing
While our focus is the mobile, we have a tight integration between the desktop and the mobile, enhancing the user experience.
Having both mobile and computer in our solution offers the users the flexibility to choose how tasks are carried out — using the larger desktop screen for more intensive tasks such as managing contacts, conferencing etc.
We have also developed a powerful reporting and statistics tool useful for pinpointing a vast range of measures ranging from end user usage patterns to campaign effectiveness.
LTP - Lightweight Telephony Protocol
The cornerstone of our offering is a unique protocol, LTP (Lightweight Telephony Protocol) - a small-footprint third generation communications protocol especially developed for end-user terminals and handsets.
The Lightweight Telephony Protocol has been developed by the Packetmobile team over the past 8 years. It has been thoroughly tried and tested, and it will be released to open source as soon as our Trademark is approved.
LTP works on GPRS, EDGE, EVDO, UMTS and of course Wifi, so consumers are not limited by their handset or subscription.
Web service
By simply logging onto the web service, customers can see the status of their contacts and add new ones, create groups and manage all aspects of their account.
From the web service, customers can also download the mobile client and desktop client.
The service is purely web-based and requires no plugins or additional software.

Mobile client

In the mobile domain we have clients for all mobile phones. For Symbian and Windows Mobile LTP delivers the full package - rich presence, IM, IP calling, and push-to-talk. For all other data enabled phones a java midlet provides users with rich presence and IM.
The LTP client is less than 100Kb making an over-air download for the mobile extremely fast and efficient.
Packetmobile can offer technology for carrying calls using either the native circuit switched application or a customised voice over IP client. Speech coding is a resource intensive application and is currently only possible on relatively high-end devices. A Java midlet is a simple solution until technology catches up - it means that everybody can access rich presence and IM, so all contacts can be part of a group.
